Dr Fergus Ryan recently featured as a speaker at the International Society of Family Law World Conference in Amsterdam. Fergus' paper, entitled "Retreat from the Bedroom: The Legal Relevance of Sex in Same-sex Marriage and Civil Partnership", examined the heterocentric legal definitions of adultery and consummation in Irish law in the light of the 2015 marriage referendum. The ISFL conference draws over 350 family law academics and practitioners from all over the world.
Dr Fergus Ryan teaches Contract, Family Law and Gender & Sexuality Law on the LLB, BCL and graduate courses at Maynooth University Department of Law.
