Dr Aisling McMahon was recently invited to attend and present her work at the Regulation and Innovation in the Biosciences (RIBS) network workshop hosted this year in association with the Centre for Advanced Studies in Biomedical Innovation Law (CeBIL) at the University of Copenhagen. The two day workshop on 10th and 11th June brought together international health and intellectual property law scholars to discuss contemporary issues on the regulation of the biosciences. Dr McMahon presented her work on “Patent Licensing for ‘Ethical’ Use: A missed regulatory opportunity?” at the event.

The workshop was followed on 12th June by a CEBIL-RIBS public symposium on the topic “At the Cutting Edge: New Developments in the Law of Biomedicine” at the University of Copenhagen. Dr McMahon presented a paper on “Gene Patents and the Marginalisation of Ethical Issues” at this symposium which is based on her forthcoming article in the European Intellectual Property Review (pre-print version is available here). This article was based on findings from a broader British Academy funded project examining gene patents and health.

Dr McMahon writes primarily on patent law and medical law. Dr McMahon is a lecturer in Maynooth University Department of Law. She teaches Equity and Trusts, Contemporary issues in Medicine and the Law and a new module on Patents, Health and Biotechnology. For further information, contact: aisling.mcmahon@mu.ie
