Tuesday, April 17, 2018 - 14:30

The Maynooth Law Society were delighted to host the eighth annual Matheson Silken Thomas Moot Court Competition on the 13th & 14th of April, with a number of teams showcasing their adversarial abilities. The competition took place on Maynooth University's South Campus, with the final and gala dinner at Carton House. Mr Justice John MacMenamin of the Supreme Court was on the final panel, with the winners of the competition being Lisa Boylan and Simon Curmei from Maynooth University.

A huge congratulations also to the finalists Michael Mullen and Conor Byrne from UCD. This year’s question concerned issues arising in Criminal Law and the Law of Evidence, focusing on the area of common design. The “Mr Justice Carney Best Speaker Award” in memory of the late Mr Justice Paul Carney who had judged the competition for many years, was awarded to Daniel O Dowd from Maynooth University.

A particular thank you to Maynooth University Law Society's Moot Court Convenor, Ciara McCarthy, who organised the event, and to Matheson, who generously sponsored the event.
