Congratulations to Krista Dooley, who was awarded a Maynooth University Access Programme (MAP) annual Achievement Awards on Saturday 14 April.

Professor Philip Nolan presented the awards recognising the outstanding contribution that young people, teachers, MAP students and Alumni make to the University and our wider community. Two inspirational Maynooth University students received the 2018 Alumni and Student Achievement Awards. These award winners have been selected because of their personal and academic achievements, their civic engagement with the University and their local communities and their potential to act as a role model to students. The 2018 Award Winners are Claire Shorten, PME student in the Department of Education and Krista Dooley, a current third year undergraduate in Law who is also a very engaged MAP School Outreach Ambassador.

The MAP Second Level Achievement Awards was also presented to 150 inspirational 3rd and 6th year students from second level schools throughout Kildare, Dublin, Offaly and Kilkenny. This award aims to recognise students for their tremendous progress in a subject area and for overcoming obstacles on their path to third level education. 34 teachers/staff members also received the Maynooth University Inspirational School Staff Awards that recognises the importance of teachers as role models to young people on their educational journey. The 6th year student winners selected these School staff awardees.

It is also a recognition and celebration of the great successes at Maynooth University in the field of education and educational inclusivity.  We are particularly proud of the work carried out by our partners in Early Childhood Education, Froebel, Department of Education and Adult and Community Education.  A particular success is the launch in April of the Turn to Teaching project, which will increase the number of students from underrepresented groups entering initial teacher education.
