Monday, July 25, 2016 - 16:00

A Bill drafted by Dr Fergus Ryan has moved to second stage in Dáil Éireann.  The Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2016 was tabled by Deputy Eoin Ó Broin TD (Dublin Mid-West, Sinn Féin spokesperson on housing). It has initially been drafted for the Seanad campaign of Kieran Rose, a member of the Human Rights Commission.  It aims to remove powers from the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government to override the terms of democratically mandated County Development Plans and Local Area Plans.  The Bill is available online.

Fergus previously drafted the Adoption (Identity and Information) Bill 2015, sponsored by Senators Averil Power, Jillian Van Turnhout and Fidelma Healy Eames, which was passed by Seanad Éireann in 2015.

Dr Fergus Ryan lectures in Family Law on the Department's LLB programme and in Gender, Sexuality and the Law and Marriage and the Law on the LLM (Global Legal Studies) masters degree.
