Access to Medicines Ireland (AMI) calls on the Irish government to take action to support the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) ‘Solidarity Call to Action’ and endorse the Covid-19 Technology Access Pool (C-TAP). C-TAP is a key step to ensuring that future diagnostics, treatments and vaccines for COVID-19 are affordable and accessible globally, and also for patients in Ireland and to Irish taxpayers.

Dr Aisling McMahon, Assistant Professor, MaynoothUniversity Department of Law, stated: “‘People living in Ireland and indeed, across the globe need to have equitable access to effective and safe COVID-19 healthcare as soon as possible. The Irish Government can strengthen its commitment to developing effective COVID-19 healthcare and to ensuring equitable global access to such COVID-19 health-technologies by supporting the WHO Solidarity Call to Action and C-TAP initiative. The WHO Call to Action and C-TAP initiative promotes the sharing of knowledge, data and intellectual property rights which is vital to developing effective vaccines, diagnostics, and medicines for COVID-19, and for ensuring equitable global access to these.”
