We’ve identified a number of devices across the university that will need attention. Where possible, these devices will be upgraded in place, but in many cases, a full replacement will be required. We’ll be contacting affected users directly to advise them of what’s needed and how to raise a request. In the meantime, please ensure to check for and install all available updates on your device and log a request via the MU Support Portal to request further information and to chat to an IT Services staff member. To do this:
- Open the MU Support Portal and sign in
- Select the Service Catalogue icon on the left navigation bar
- Select IT Services for staff > Devices and Printing and then 'Hardware Upgrade Required' - complete this form and we will be in touch with you directly.
Alternatively, click the following link to access the request directly: MU Support Portal | Hardware Upgrade Required.
We’re flagging this now so you're aware that you may be contacted by IT Services staff to discuss device replacement, and some requests may require budget approval within your area. If you’d like to review the list of devices flagged in your unit or talk through options, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
If you are using a Windows 10 device:
- Ensure that all required files are backed-up to OneDrive
- Take a screenshot of all installed applications on your device, in case a re-install is required. To view installed apps on Windows 10, navigate to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- If your device is older than 5-7 years old, it is likely that it will not support Windows 11 and will therefore, need to be replaced. If you wish to start the order process for a new device, use the following request offering: MU Support Portal | Purchase Request
- Use the following link to request further information and advice: MU Support Portal | Hardware Upgrade Required.
Any Windows 10 devices still active on the network on or after the 14th of October will become increasingly vulnerable to cyber security risks and will eventually no longer be supported on the university network.
