On the 23rd October 2018, Maynooth University launched it's International Engineering College, in Fuzhou University, one of China’s leading universities that will see 1,200 Chinese students graduate with one of four Maynooth Universities degrees over the next four years. The Joint College will offer four undergraduate programmes: BE in Electronic Engineering, BSc in Computer Science & Software Engineering, BSc in Robotics and Intelligent Devices and a BSc in Mobile Multimedia and Web Programming. Fuzhou University has been identified as part of China’s Project 211, which aims to strenghten the standards of the top 112 Chinese universities, raise the research standards in highly ranked universities, promote key disciplinary areas as a national priority, and cultivate strategies for socio-economic development.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Fuzhou University in the Fujian Province of China, was Minister of State for Training, Skills, Innovation, Research and Development, John Halligan, TD. The inauguration was also attended by representatives of the Fujian Provincial Government; the Irish Ambassador to China, Eoin O’Leary; the President of Maynooth University, Professor Philip Nolan; and Niall O’Donnellan, Head of ICT, International Services and Client Management Development at Enterprise Ireland.
Furthermore, on the 23rd October, the first joint management committee meeting of Maynooth International Engineering College took place at Fuzhou University. The below picture includes the members that will be a part of the joint management committee.
In addition to the launch of the Maynooth University International Engineering College (IEC), the week ended on another joyful note when Maynooth University staff were invited to share in the celebrations with Fuzhou University who were honouring their 60th anniversary.
