Biography

Paul completed his PhD in hydrology at Maynooth University in early 2022, for which he reconstructed 250 years of river flows values for 51 river catchments in Ireland using multiple hydrological modelling techniques. Employing drought indicators he examined spatial and temporal changes in drought characteristics and linked reconstructed drought indicators to historical written records in Irish newspapers. Following a six months post doctorate role with the All Island Climate and Biodiversity Research Network, assessing Irish climate and biodiversity research outputs and the research environment on the island of Ireland, Paul has re-joined the Irish Climate Analysis Research Units to work on the IHRN project. This two year project seeks to update and advance an Irish reference network of hydrometric gauges (incl. river flows, lakes and groundwater) for monitoring and detecting climate change signals.
