Female staff should inform Human Resources as soon as they become aware that they are pregnant and provide confirmation from a doctor or midwife, if requested. When the University receives notification that an employee is pregnant a risk assessment will be carried out to ensure the safety of the staff member.
Breast Feeding Mothers/Expressing Breast Milk
Mothers who have given birth within the previous 26 weeks are entitled to breaks for the purpose of breastfeeding or expressing breast milk. Where facilities do not exist mothers may make arrangements with their Head of Department to take the same breastfeeding breaks/expressing breast milk breaks in the form of one period of 60 minutes, two periods of 30 minutes each or three periods of 20 minutes each off campus. Breaks are calculated on a pro-rata basis for part-time staff.
