About

David's PhD research, completed in 2013, focused on the impact of climate change on the construction industry in Ireland. Since then, he has taught and tutored geography and climate change modules to Maynooth University undergraduates and completed a Teaching Fellowship at St. Patrick's College, DCU. From 2019-2021 he was the Chapter Scientist for the IPCC's AR6 WG1 Chapter 2 (Changing State of the Climate System). Currently David is a Research Fellow under the auspices of PI Peter Thorne, involved with the EPA's first Five-Year Assessment Report (5YAR).

The 5YAR is anticipated to run from January 2021 to March 2023. It will be focused on outcomes from climate research in Ireland and Europe and build on material provided by the IPCC during its 6th Assessment cycle. It will use data from observations systems in Ireland as identified under the Global Climate Observation System (GCOS), as well as information from the Copernicus programme. David's duties include supporting, engaging and working with the 5YAR Academic Leads and their support teams, and supporting the 5YAR Steering Committees and the overall production process.
