The 1st Virtual Heritage Network (VHN) Ireland conference will be held at An Foras Feasa, The Institute for Research in Irish Historical and Cultural Traditions at Maynooth University (Maynooth, Kildare) from Friday 20th – Sunday 22nd November 2015. VHN Ireland aims to bring together people who work for the support, improvement and promotion of virtual heritage in Ireland across the academic, business, education, cultural heritage, policy, and tourism sectors. It welcomes people from a diverse range of backgrounds including archaeology, cultural studies, social sciences, arts, conservation, education, engineering, computer science, business, and industry.

What is Virtual Heritage?

Virtual refers to computer-generated visualisations having three or more dimensions regardless of the method used to produce them (e.g. modelling, photogrammetry, scanning, additive manufacturing and 3D printing, virtual/augmented reality, RTI etc.). Heritage refers to tangible objects, such as cultural heritage sites, monuments and artefacts, as well as intangible elements, such as performing arts, social and ritual practices, knowledge and skills.

Objectives of VHN Ireland:

  • To make connections between people from a variety of sectors in Ireland who share an active interest in virtual heritage;
  • To encourage and support the carrying out of virtual heritage activities of the highest international standards;
  • To promote knowledge, understanding and appreciation of virtual heritage in Ireland;
  • To undertake any other activity that benefits virtual heritage in Ireland

Call for Papers

The VHN: Ireland 2015 organising committee invites proposals for papers, posters and interactive presentations relating to all aspects of Irish cultural heritage.

The themes of the conference may include but are not limited to:

  • Interpretation and Communication
  • Building Cultural and Creative Economy
  • Technologies and Methods
  • New Research
