Friday, August 14, 2015 - 12:30

An Foras Feasa is very pleased to welcome our latest Visiting Fellow, Dr Caoimhe Nic Dháibhéid from the University of Sheffield. Dr Nic Dháibhéid will be at Maynooth University until 05 September.

Caoimhe Nic Dháibhéid is Lecturer in Modern History at the University of Sheffield. She was educated at University College Cork and Queen's University Belfast, and held research fellowships at Queen's University Belfast, the University of Cambridge and the University of St Andrews. Her first book, Seán MacBride: A Republican Life, 1904-1946, was published in 2011 by Liverpool University Press and reissued in paperback last year. Her current research centres on the children of the Easter Rising leaders, tracing their experiences through the upheaval of the Rising and Revolution, and into the early decades of the Free State. It addresses questions of childhood bereavement and trauma, grief, memory, and the forging of personal identities in the shadow of a national foundation myth. She has related research interests in the history of political violence, and is interested in the broader issue of life-writing more generally.
