Professor Michael Doherty was the keynote speaker at an event entitled ‘The Rights of Freelance Workers’

Michael Doherty was the keynote speaker at an event on ‘The Rights of Freelance Workers’, held at the Mansion House Dublin on June 5th. Prof Doherty spoke on the links between collective bargaining rights and competition law, in protecting rights of freelance workers and those working in the ‘gig’ or ‘platform’ economy. The event was jointly organised by Siptu and the NUJ, and was part of a series of events to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of James Connolly.
 
Prof Doherty recently published a new piece ‘Trade Unions and the “Gig Economy”’ in Game Changers in Labour Law: Shaping the Future of Work. 
 
Prof Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law and lectures courses to all first year law students on Introduction to Law, as well as Employment Law to BCL/ LLB students.
