Monday, February 3, 2020 - 17:15

On Thursday 30th January, the Second Joint Law Department Research Symposium was held at the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE), in the town of Modena, Italy. The symposium reflects the ongoing research partnership between Maynooth University's Department of Law and Modena's Department of Law. Lynsey Black, Donal Coffey, Edana Richardson and Seth Barrett Tillman travelled to represent Maynooth at the event, which was hosted by Prof. Elio Tavelli (Modena Law's Head of Department), as well as Prof. Maria Cecilia Fregni and Prof. Alberto Tampieri. The symposium follows the event held at Maynooth University in 2019 and marks the deepening of this partnership. At the symposium, Lynsey Black spoke about her research on women, murder and the death penalty in Ireland from 1922-64, while Donal Coffey presented his work on the drafting of the Burmese Constitution and its links to the Irish Constitution. Edana Richardson outlined her research on the scope for sustainable and green finance within Islamic finance, and Seth Barrett Tillman closed the symposium with his paper on the nature of corruption and bribery in the public realm in the United States.
