Claire Hamilton recently published an opinion piece in the Irish Independent entitled 'Murder rates may be falling but gangs are ramping up the violence'.

The piece discusses the extent of gang-related lethal violence in Ireland in light of published statistics and recent reports on the use and trafficking of firearms in Europe. It also draws on research by Sarah Skedd on homicide in Ireland in the Routledge Handbook of Irish Criminology (2016) edited by Deirdre Healy, Claire Hamilton, Yvonne Daly and Michelle Butler.

Claire Hamilton is a Professor of Criminology in Maynooth University Department of Law. She lectures on the BCL, BA and MA Criminology programmes.
