Biography

Research
Guangyuan Piao is currently a Lecturer/Assistant Professor at Maynooth University, Ireland with research interest in web mining, social media mining, recommender systems with knowledge graphs, knowledge graph mining and information retrieval. Prior to the current position, he was a research scientist at NOKIA Bell Labs with the research interest of AIOps (Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations) and applied AI technologies to solve challenging real-world problems in the context of networked systems. He did his PhD at the Insight Research Centre for Data Analytics, NUI Galway Ireland with the scholarship from SAP and SFI (Science Foundation Ireland). He has been actively publishing and giving tutorials in top-tier AI and Systems venues such as Foundations and Trends® in Information Retrieval, UMUAI, IJCAI, CIKM, ESWC, and Eurosys. He has served as a program committee or reviewer for both AI and Systems conferences such as WWW, Web Science, AAAI, ISWC, ESWC, CIKM, Middleware, and EuCNC. Education
Guangyuan Piao received his B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Jilin University in China, and received his M.Eng. degree in information engineering from Yonsei University in South Korea. He holds a PhD from Data Science Institute at National University of Ireland Galway in Ireland with the research topic of “Semantics-aware User Modeling and Recommender Systems”. Before joining Maynooth University, he worked as a research scientist with the focus on AIOps at NOKIA Bell Labs. 

Teaching
Guangyuan has contributed to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses on a wide range of topics such as Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and Semantic Web for Business during his master and PhD studies, and Algorithms and Data Structure, Multimedia Technology, and supervisor & critical skills project modules at Maynooth. Guangyuan has also given tutorials on mining user interests from social media in IJCAI and CKIM.
