Pádraic Fleming, a SPHeRE1 PhD scholar in the Department of Psychology at  Maynooth University, has recently been awarded a Young Forum Gastein Scholarship for the European Health Forum Gastein (EHFG) 2014. Padraic is supervised by Dr Sinéad McGilloway (Director of the Mental Health and Social Research Unit) and co-supervised by Dr Sarah Barry, TCD.

The Young Forum Gastein initiative is a joint project of the International Forum Gastein and the European Commission Directorate Generals SANCO (Health and Consumers), CONNECT (Communications Networks, Content and Technology) and JRC (Joint Research Council). This prestigious scholarship was initiated in 2007 to enable promising young health professionals to attend the annual EHFG conference for learning and networking. It offers a unique opportunity to learn about current developments in Europe and to network with a number of high level experts in the sphere of health.

The EHFG is the leading health policy event in the EU, taking place annually in the Gastein Valley in Austria. It provides a platform for hundreds of politicians, senior decisions makers, interest groups and experts from government, business, industry, civil society, science and academia, to discuss public health and contemporary healthcare. Scholars actively participate in the conference including presentations, panel discussions, reporting on the event, contributing to the conference web-blog and conducting interviews with senior delegates.
