A Mentor's role is to support and encourage the mentee (current MU student) to seek advice and information about their career direction and goals, along with sharing industry insights and providing advice on preparing for the next stage of their career.
An ideal mentor would be able to help a mentee by:
Alumni Mentoring is one of the most successful ways of helping students build their professional network and prepare for work, life and engaged citizenship.
The programme runs between February and May. The amount of time is not onerous and has been estimated at 8 hours commitment in total.
The above time commitment does not include an optional Work Shadowing Day, which we would ask all mentors to do, where possible.
We are looking for mentors with different experiences, and from a range of subjects, disciplines, and careers.
You could be a great mentor if you are:
- empathetic and a good listener;
- able to ask questions and share ideas effectively;
- willing to share your experience and give insight into your work and your journey;
- available to fulfil the commitments of the role (see "Time Commitment" above)
Once all application forms have been submitted, mentor profiles will be collated into an anonymised directory. This directory will be accessible only to Maynooth University students via a restricted login area on our employability portal, MU FutureConnect. Your contact details will not be available to students.
In their applications, students will select their preferred mentor profiles and any matched students will have expressed a strong interest and motivation in gaining an insight into your career area expertise.
Applications to become a mentor can be submitted here. Please note the closing date for applications is Sunday 01st November.
If you have any queries about the application contact Máire Buckley at email@example.com
Applications to be a mentee will open in November.
