Student Creative Writing Competition for Second Year English

Thursday, October 13, 2016 - 15:30

To mark the Shakespeare quatercentenary, the 400th anniversary of the death of playwright and poet William Shakespeare, students in Second Year English are invited to write a creative adaptation of any Shakespeare text. Your adaptation should focus on the themes of memory and commemoration but may take any form (such as a sonnet, a screen play, a short story, a blog, a YouTube video, a meme).

Entries should be no longer than 400 words and set on one page only. They should be submitted to Stephen.oneill@mu.ie no later than 5pm on Thursday 27 October 2016. The winning entry will be announced on the Maynooth University Department of English Twitter account and published on the Department website. The winner will receive a prize, kindly funded by Maynooth University Commemorations Committee.

The competition is part of a series of events across Ireland to mark Shakespeare 400, including a one-day symposium, “Shakespeare 400 Ireland” in Maynooth University on 22 October. For more information, see http://www.britishcouncil.ie/shakespeare-lives-across-island
