The Enquiring Classroom: Developing Communities of Enquiry
Focus: Exploring Values, Beliefs, Identity and Belonging
Facilitation Skills Developed:  Philosophical Enquiry, Belief Circles, Lived Values and Arts-Based Methodologies.

You are invited to join Dr. Patricia Kieran (MIC, Limerick) and Professor Aislinn O’Donnell (Maynooth University) for their Erasmus+ Project “The Enquiring Classroom” training school workshops.

Our workshops will take place on the following dates and there is no charge for attendance. We will be providing refreshments and subsidised lunch for each workshop and each participant will receive a Certificate of Participation along with further online support and learning opportunities.

At the heart of our project is a commitment to arts based methodologies, lived values, philosophical enquiry and to dialogue, listening, imagination in the discussion and exploration of ideas, religions, beliefs, values and 'big questions'. This approach will have particular relevance for primary teachers engaging in exploring values, ethics, religions and beliefs, and will be responsive to the new ERB and Ethics proposed curriculum. In post-primary schools, it will have direct relevance to a range of subjects including the new Junior Cycle course in Philosophy and the new Leaving Certificate Subject, Politics and Society, and CSPE. Our project is designed for use in a classroom environment from age 8 to 18.

The training school consists of participation in the workshop and an online component consisting of short online module inputs. these are designed to build community and will involve sharing pedagogical exercises and tasks, and will be provided with the rationale and resources underpinning the different approaches.  These can be completed over a 6 week period.
