Choosing your subjects for an Arts Degree can be a difficult task, being out of the education system for twenty years added to the difficulty for me. When I attended my first Classics lecture in Maynooth University I knew immediately that I had made the right decision. The Classics Department at Maynooth has an enthusiastic and inspiring group of lecturers whose passion for their discipline is quite simply contagious. The support and encouragement I received made third level education one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.
The programme offers an opportunity to study history, literature and art for your own advancement and enjoyment. There’s more to it than that, however, a classics degree is highly relevant for the modern workplace because it hones research skills, inspires creative and analytical thinking, and enhances writing skills. This is all good news for prospective employers. Getting my degree at Maynooth University opened up many new careers possibilities for me and gave me confidence in my abilities to pursue a career that I really enjoy.
