David Fitzmaurice

Law Clerk for the Hon. Paul A. Crotty
Manhattan's Federal Court
BCL (Law and Irish) (International)
2012

I was part of Maynooth University School of Law and Criminology’s first class, back in 2008. I chose to study law at Maynooth because I liked the idea of being part of a new programme and was drawn to the excitement and opportunities that came with it. At Maynooth, I was able to become involved in a number of student-run initiatives such as being a committee member on the first ever law society or an editor on the first ever volume of the Golden Thread magazine. With the help of the faculty, I was also able to create Maynooth’s own peer-reviewed academic law journal, the Irish Law Journal and I was the Editor in Chief of its first volume. Maynooth University also gave me the opportunity to spend my third year studying law over in Boston College Law School.

I graduated from Maynooth in 2012 and I spent the following year working in the Four Courts as the Judicial Assistant to the District Court President, Judge Rosemary Horgan. There, I assisted President Horgan with drafting speeches and conference papers, and conducting research for her cases. I also led a project to publish, for the first time in the State’s history, written District Court decisions in childcare cases involving the HSE.

In August 2013, I moved to Philadelphia to pursue an LL.M. in the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  After graduating from Penn Law and passing the New York bar exam, I commenced a federal clerkship with the Hon. Paul A. Crotty in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. After my clerkship ends in September 2015, I will join Weil, Gotshal & Manges as a litigation associate in the firm’s New York office.
