‘Religion and Spirituality in the Life, Thought, and Music of Beethoven’.

Glenn Stanley studied European and American history and musicology at Columbia University and received the Ph.D. with a dissertation on the German oratorio in the nineteenth century. He taught at Columbia University, McGill University and the University of Connecticut (1990-), retiring as a full professor in 2018. He  was guest professor at the University of Salzburg and The Humboldt and Free Universities in Berlin. He joined the faculty of the Barenboim-Said Akademie, Berlin, in fall 2019.   
Stanley has organized international conferences and lecture series at  Carnegie Hall, New York und der University of Connecticut.  His research interests include Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Wagner, Mozart, and music historiography and criticism (Grove Dictionary, 2000). He edited the Cambridge Companion to Beethoven (2000) und is co-editing Beethoven in Context (Cambridge, 2020-2021).  He is currently working on a volume of essays on Fidelio
