Exciting new research published on compounds used in the battle against several illnesses including cancer, viral afflictions, obesity, and cystic fibrosis.
The Stephens group at the Department of Chemistry, Maynooth University have just published an elegant synthesis of pyrazolopyrimdinones in the Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry. The pyrazolopyrimidinone is of interest due its role as a basic core scaffold in many pharmaceutically relevant compounds and has found use in the battle against several illnesses including cancer, viral afflictions, obesity, and cystic fibrosis.

Recent work from Dr Elisa Fadda (PI) and Matthew G Nixon (PhD candidate) features on the cover of the latest issue of the Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics (PCCP) journal.
Dr Fadda’s research focuses on understanding the mechanisms and energetics of biomolecular interactions through high-performance computing (HPC) molecular simulation techniques. Of particular interest to the group is how different degrees of structural flexibility in biomolecules, such as protein and complex carbohydrates, modulate their binding affinities and specificities.
