On Friday 9th September the Centre for Teaching and Learning hosted a face-to-face session entitled ‘Introduction to Teaching and Learning for New Maynooth University Teaching Staff’.
The session was attended by colleagues from across a range of disciplines, including Business, Education, Psychology and Design, who had recently joined the university. During the morning colleagues got a chance to meet and learn a little bit about each other, and to learn about Teaching and Learning in Maynooth University. The Dean of Teaching and Learning, Dr Alison Hood, reinforced the importance of Teaching and Learning in Maynooth University. She noted that the University is committed to excellence in Teaching and Learning and that our goal is to offer sector-leading support to staff in the continued development of their Teaching and Learning practice at all levels of education from undergraduate to doctoral.
The Centre for Teaching and Learning presented an overview of Teaching and Learning in the institution, including highlighting some of the work that the Centre does in supporting staff. Colleagues from Experiential Learning, the Access Office, Student Services and the Library also contributed to the event and explained how those offices and units work with both staff and students. It was a great opportunity for new staff to learn about the help that is available to them and to meet some of the colleagues who are involved.
The introduction to Teaching and Learning at Maynooth was followed by an assessment workshop by international experts Sally Brown and Kay Sambell. Dr Shivam Agarwal, from School of Business Department who attended both events remarked ‘ I have a firm understanding on how learning outcomes can be considered to accommodate the needs of all students. The session on design of course material by Professors Brown and Sambell, was extremely useful towards the measurement of learning intentions and success criteria.’
