Anthropology Department Facilities

Postgraduate Study Room
There is a large room at the far end of the Anthropology Department main hallway that is set aside for the exclusive use of anthropology postgraduate students, and all anthropology postgraduate students are welcome to use it. You can obtain a code for the door from the Anthropology Departmental Office (you are responsible for keeping this code secure). Postgraduate students are free to organize and use this space as they wish, and must negotiate with one another about how it will be shared. However, it is intended primarily as a place for quiet study and not for socializing (see details below about the kitchen/lunchroom).

Individual Offices
A few individual offices in the Anthropology Department are set aside for the use of Teaching Assistants and Tutors. These are shared and are intended for the purpose of conducting departmental business such as preparing tutorials, meeting with undergraduate students and marking student work. Depending on availability, PhD students may also be assigned shared office space.

Departmental Kitchen/Lunch Room
Next to the Postgraduate Study Room there is a kitchen with a table and comfortable seating. This is primarily for the use of Anthropology Department Staff, but postgraduate students are also welcome to use the facilities, and to socialize in this space.  There is no cleaning staff to clean up after you; each person who uses the kitchen is obligated to leave the kitchen clean after use. If this obligation is not honoured, privileges to use of the kitchen will be revoked.

Department Website
All course information as well as announcements (for events, opportunities, etc.) are posted on the Anthropology Department website. The website is dynamic and changes frequently, so students are advised to visit often to review changes in information. Students are responsible for being familiar with all information posted on the website, especially on the postgraduate pages.

Department Notice boards
There are notice boards are located at the entrance to the departmental offices in Rowan House. Posted here are notices of a variety of events and opportunities. Students are urged to consult these notice boards on a regular basis.

Library
John Paul II Library is the main library of Maynooth University and is available to you once you have registered and have a Maynooth University student identity card.  An Interlibrary Loans service is also available, but the cost of these loans is born by the student.  If you need to use this service, please contact Denise or Jacqui for details.
