George Victor Du Noyer (1817-1869)

MU Library Treasures blog features a guest post by Fiona Ahern, local historian and lecturer. A Salute to George Victor Du Noyer on the 200th anniversary of his birth. Du Noyer was employed initially by the Ordnance Survey of Ireland and from 1847 by the Geological Survey of Ireland, becoming District Surveyor in 1867. This work provided him with the opportunity to travel throughout Ireland. Alongside his official duties of mapping the terrain and recording geological features, he also sought out archaeological features, recording them for posterity in his drawings.
