Duties Include:
- Daytime Cover of the Apartments Reception (Monday – Friday) on a rostered basis.In 2016/2017, the apartments’ reception opening hours will be 9am – 7pm Monday to Friday.
Duties include, but are not restricted to, dealing with maintenance queries, giving out post, assisting with access to the apartments, reporting problems to line managers and other services. Occasionally, Resident Assistants may be a first point of contact for resident welfare issues.
- On-call work, covering all apartments on campus, weeknights, weekends and holidays and bank holidays on a rostered basis.
Typically, this involves working overnight on-call when the office shuts at night until it opens in the morning as well as weekends on duty on a rostered basis. On-call carries on throughout the holiday periods including Christmas, Easter and bank holidays. On-call work may involve building checks, and dealing with emergency situations. Resident Assistants work in teams for on-call work and must be present on campus when on duty.
Other Duties:
- Attendance at all resident assistant training as required by the Accommodation office;
- Regular taking of electricity meter readings;
- Participation in fire drills at least once a semester;
- Inspections and re-stocking of all apartments as required;
- Providing access to your own apartment for occasional viewings;
- Working in collaboration with security staff, particularly during busy periods;
- Assistance with Res life initiatives and events;
- Assistance in communication with the student resident population;
- Any other duties relevant to the role that are assigned by the Accommodation Office.
Reporting:
The Resident Assistants will report to the Accommodation Office, via the Residence Supervisors in the first instance, and to the Residence Officer. In certain cases, in addition to usual reporting channels, the Resident Assistant may be required to report to Maynooth University Security and/or emergency services.
Duration:
Successful candidates will commence duties on or before 29th August 2016 and continue until 4th June 2017 inclusive.

Resident Assistants are expected to be responsible members of the Residence community and to carry out their duties in accordance with the rules and regulations of the University and the requirements of the Accommodation Office. Resident Assistants occupies a position of trust within the Accommodation Office and among student peers. Hence desirable qualities include:

Application for Resident Assistant positions is now open to all registered full-time students of Maynooth University and SPCM. Applications will close at 11pm on Sunday 10th April. No late applications accepted and only online applications will be eligible.
Selection Process: Shortlisting will be used as part of the selection process so the form is an important part of your application. We may include a test of computer/office skills also. Interviews are likely to be held at some point on Tuesday 26th – Thursday 28th April. Interviews must be attended in person. There is no facility for phone or skype interviews.
Please note: Unauthorised debts owing to the University (e.g. rents or fees), warnings (which have not been expunged) issued by the Accommodation Office for on-campus or off campus behaviour, or behaviour which has attracted the attention of Campus Security or the Garda Siochana will preclude you from selection as a Resident Assistant.

Garda Vetting:
All successful candidates will be subject to Garda Vetting and must attend all training provided by the Accommodation Office. Successful applicants will also need to provide at least 2 written references. Any offers made will be provisional until all Garda and reference checks have successfully taken place within the scheduled deadline. References and completed Garda Vetting forms must be submitted by 27th May 2016.
Timetable for Applications / Start of Position:
- Tuesday 29th March: Applications open to all students. Email sent to all students.
- Sunday 10th April: Applications close at 11pm. No late applications accepted.
- Week starting 11th April: Shortlisting of all applicants take place and notifications of call to interview sent out
- Tuesday 19th – Thursday 20th April: Interviews take place for shortlisted applicants. Interviews must take place in person. Phone or skype interviews have found to be unsuitable for this role.
- Week starting 25th April: All interviewees emailed results of interviews.
- Friday 6th May: Last day for successful candidates to accept position**.
- Friday 27th May: last day for receipt of 2 written references and completed Garda vetting form for successful candidates**
- Monday 29th August: 2 week RA training programme commences.
- Sunday 11th September: Residents move onto campus.
