Maynooth University Rugby Club is a rapidly growing and vibrant club that enjoys success both on and off the rugby field.

The merging of Maynooth University & Barnhall RFC has given a significant boost to both parties. We now have 28 teams, both male and female; ranging from U7’s to our senior All Ireland League team, and all play on the weekends with marked success.
Rugby at Maynooth University provides many unique opportunities for our students:

· Option to play social, All Ireland League, Women’s (Leinster 1 or Leinster 4) or Under premier under 20s rugby.
· Option to play tag rugby.
· A rugby scholarship programme for the elite student athlete.
· Highly qualified and motivated coaching staff (Rugby & Strength & Conditioning).

Scholarship Programme
Maynooth University and Barnhall rugby club joined forces to create a programme whereby school leavers have an opportunity to marry their enjoyment of rugby with their academic aspirations. Now known as Maynooth University Barnhall (or MU Barnhall), the club have had remarkable success in bringing players through the scholarship programme to All Ireland League Rugby.
MU Barnhall currently boasts one of the largest adult playing pools nationwide with 5 men’s teams, an Under 20 and a women’s team turning out in the club’s traditional blue jersey weekly. The difference between a traditional University rugby club is MU Barnhall was a community club before our alliance with Maynooth University began so there is a vast mini rugby section (250+ players), youth teams at every age from U13 to U18 for boys and a thriving underage girls section now in full swing too.
MU Barnhall are currently restructuring their scholarship programme in a bid to provide players with a professional, competitive and fun under 20’s environment as well as providing a pathway to All Ireland League rugby. Whilst rugby is a huge part of what we do, we endeavour to provide the player with a holistic University experience, enjoying getting the best from themselves on the rugby pitch but, crucially, academically too. There is a vibrant social aspect to both club and University with players making friends for life over the duration of their studies. It truly is a club away from home!

What does the programme entail?

3 supervised gym sessions weekly (choice of times, dependant on academic timetables)
Periodic recovery session – pool or massage
Training 2-3 evenings
Sign for MU Barnhall RFC and represent club to best of your ability

What kind of players are we looking for?
We are actively looking for talented rugby players who are hardworking and ambitious. The programme demands honesty as, for the most part, it will be run on a group training basis where camaraderie is a key component of what and how we do things.
